FAQ
Before you join our training session or beginner session here are some helpful tips
-
Do I need to register or can I turn up?
We're at capacity for our beginners sessions as some of our coaches are taking a break from a hectic season.
Register your interest by email or instagram DM and we'll be inviting players to join us in the summer.
-
Where does training take place
Our fun training sessions and beginner sessions are held on the grass near the Windmill Pub on Clapham Common – the perfect real football setting! You can find our exact spot using this Google Maps link.
-
What time are training sessions?
Beginner Sessions: are at 10.00 AM on Saturday morning, excluding bank holiday weekends.
Team Sessions: during the season September - April teams train on alternate weekends at 8.00 AM
In the summer months teams at either 8.00 AM or 11.00 AM depending on the squad.
Follow us on instagram, as some sessions may be postponed at the last minute due to poor weather.
-
What should I wear?
Footwear: When the ground is firm in the summer, astro turf boots are a good choice. As the weather turns and the ground gets wet and muddy in winter, firm ground football boots with molded studs (avoiding metal studs) will give you the best grip and keep you steady.
For your first beginner session old trainers are ok on dry ground.
Clothing: Just wear comfortable sports clothes that allow you to move freely – no need for a full kit!
Shin Pads: Shin pads aren't essential, but we highly recommend wearing them for added protection.
-
What should I bring?
Please bring water, a waterproof jacket, waterproof cover such as a plastic bag or bin bag (in case of rain), and post-training clothes and snacks.
-
I've played football in the past, how do I join a team?
Contact us via message, WhatsApp, or Instagram with your experience, previous clubs, and preferred position. We'll invite you to Saturday training to see the club. After a few sessions, we'll suggest which team is right for you – we have squads for all levels, from beginners to returning experienced players.
-
How much is a beginner session?
Our beginner sessions and tea mtraining is just £5, and league match fees are £10. To help our fantastic volunteers who organise bookings/referees etc, we operate on a simple cash, pay-as-you-play basis.
-
What fitness level is required for beginner sessions?
We believe everyone should feel welcome to join in, regardless of their current fitness level. We'll support you in building your fitness as you participate. If you ever need a moment to grab some water, please do! We also make sure to include plenty of water breaks throughout the session.
-
I've never played football before, can I join?
Yes, absolutely! Our beginner sessions are specifically designed to introduce the fun and enjoyment of football, and the only way to begin is to take part. We'll provide the support and guidance you need to learn the basics and, if you're interested, help you progress along our pathway to playing in competitive matches.
